We specialize in developing micro-plasma based ion sources used for chemical trace detection in advanced analytical instruments. Many traditional chemical trace detection instruments utilize radioactive ion sources, such as Ni-63, which require compliance to stringent government regulations, increasing cost of use and raising safety concerns in handling. Our plasma based ion source is non-radioactive, thereby eliminating government oversight and eliminates handling safety concerns without sacrificing performance.
Our newly developed Positive Polarity Plasma Ion Source operates from a +12V DC supply and consumes < 1.5 Watts (nominal), making it ideal for portable battery operated instruments. The plasma generator, which drives the ion source, can be setup to operate in stand-alone mode or actively controlled via an external PC through a serial communications interface (USB or UART).
